Soon most of this sites or networks will be bigger than any corporate or new site which will turn them into the perfect marketing tool for any type of business, online and offline.
This new Internet medium can even become the next Google of advertising make it the best place to place a strategic ad campaign that will be highly targeted... When I said highly targeted i mean that marketers will be able to target an audience not just base on search phrases, by conversation, social behavior, demographic, and sharing status. This can have a big impact to your ROI and conversion rates.
So, two thing will happen in the next few years; online users will learn to find want they looking for through top search engines like Google, or by searching and asking question on their favorite social networks.
As marketers we need to be up to date with both channels search engine marketing and social media marketing.
I know right now SEO and PPC is what everyone is telling you to use if you want to make money online, because social traffic don't convert as good search engine traffic, which is true... But, web 2.0 still in evolution and eventually it will become one of the best places to place your message.
